Thinking about sustainability in contemporary society is a commitment to present and future generations, not only in the social, economic and environmental sustainable aspect, supported by the theory of the three pillars, but it is also to relate sustainability with social rights, from the perspective of Brazilian Constitutional Law. In this perspective, the purpose of this study is instigating individuals to expand the understanding of what sustainability effectively is, going beyond the traditional triple bottom line, including a thorough analysis of perspectives of social rights and human relations. The methodological research was based on the use of the dialectical method and on the bibliographic review. The results achieved with this study denote the importance of sustainability, especially as a constitutional principle, provided by article 225, as well as for the protection and promotion of social rights, ensuring a better life for all present and future generations. The great dilemma of this relationship focuses on the fact that the theory that safeguards all these guarantees is in disagreement with the effective practice of social rights and sustainable conditions, and these guarantees are implemented in an unequal and insufficient way for the entire population.
