Law's Rule: The philosophical jurisprudence of Gerald Postema

In this essay, I seek to offer an outline of Gerald J. Postema’s main conceptual theses in Law’s Rule, his latest book. First, I shall offer an account of what Professor Postema takes law’s rule to mean, in its conceptual framework and its moral foundations; then I will attempt to develop in more detail the conception of law that I attribute to Postema and that I take to underlie the book’s premises. There is — so I shall argue — a conception of law itself that animates and informs Postema’s understanding of law’s rule, and that I take to be the hallmark of his philosophical jurisprudence.
