About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Law, State, and Society Journal (Revista Direito, Estado e Sociedade) aims to disseminate interdisciplinary and innovative interventions that have quality approved by competent peers. Contributions may be in Portuguese or other languages, through original articles. Due to the journal's link with the Graduate Program in Law of PUC-Rio, the papers should keep thematic relevance with their lines of research, namely: Constitutional Transformations and Contemporary Constitutional Thinking; Human Rights, Democracy and International Order; Theory of Law, Ethics and Construction of Subjectivity. Submissions that do not fit in the referred thematic scope will be preliminarily rejected.
Peer Review Process
The articles submitted to Law, State, and Society Journal (Revista Direito, Estado e Sociedade) are initially evaluated by the Editorial Committee in the following questions:
- Originality and thematic relevance, which includes an initial analysis of merit;
- Thematic relevance to the research lines of the Graduate Program of PUC-Rio;
- Adequacy to format norms;
- Title of the authors (all authors and co-authors must have a doctoral degree or be a PhD candidate);
- Absence of elements in the text and file that allow the identification of authorship.
- Correct filling of the submission metadata, especially in relation to the suggestion of an expert.
The articles are then submitted to evaluation by at least two ad hoc referees (external evaluators), on the basis of which the Editorial Committee will decide to accept, reject or request changes to the submitted text. It should be noted that the opinions are only advisory material and do not bind the decision to be taken by the Editorial Committee. In case of conflicting opinions, the Editorial Committee may forward the article to a third external evaluator, if it believes it is necessary for the decision to be made. It is important to emphasize that the communication of conditional approval of the article (editorial decision "required revisions") does not guarantee the publication of the work. After the review by the authors, the Editorial Committee will evaluate the appropriateness of the work for publication in the journal, and may make one of the following decisions: (i) decide for final approval of the article and its publication; (ii) decide, immediately and without the possibility of a new round of review, for not publishing the work; (iii) request new modifications to the authors, after which a new evaluation will be made by the Editorial Committee; (iv) send the work again to external evaluators (these can be the same ones that evaluated the article previously or new evaluators) before a final decision is made regarding the manuscript.
The average estimate for completing an evaluation varies from two to six months.
Professors interested in contributing to the Journal as external evaluators should contact revistadireito@puc-rio.br.
